Team 9 – Drive Only No Texting

Danielle Skipper, Margo Woodring and Will Leonard developed the non-profit organization “DONT: Drive Only No Texting” and web campaign as a way to raise awareness of the risks and consequences of driving while using a cell phone.  The campaign is intended for a national audience and integrates an interactive website and engaging PSA videos as a way of educating individuals about the dangers of texting while driving.  The log line “Drive Now and TTYL” sums up the goals of the campaign, which are to encourage teenagers to wait until they are done driving to send a text message, and to discourage friends and family to text someone that is driving.  The home page of the website offers many ways for visitors to stay in contact with the campaign, including facebook, twitter and RSS feed links, as well as an easy to sign up for e-newsletter and a texting and driving related, current events newsfeed.

The PSA campaign was designed to focus on three major aspects of texting while driving.  The first PSA targets teenagers and uses metaphor to depict how significantly texting impairs one’s ability to multitask.

This next PSA focuses on the legal consequences related to texting while driving, with the intention of educating teenagers on all possible results of texting while driving, in addition to injury or death.
