Getting to know the “Experimental Film”

Last week me and my professor had discussed my experimental film , she was very happy, and inspired me , guided me how to put my abstract idea into visual script , I think this is a very important for a director.
At the following weekend when I went out , there are several places which can be used in the film .
My theme is lattice , all visual sensation and what I want to present to the audience is a lattice, TV is the lattice, the road block and frame, so this experimental short films just wanted to bring you  a sense of infinite .
I finally wrote the script in six small respectively parts, which are ZAK , BI-CYCLE, TV VERTIGO, FUNERAL, HEAVEN I AM IN HEAVEN, LATTICE.
I also draw the storyboard, and it really could see what is gona represent at my film, there are some events I want to say: A jazz party, it sounds thrill me and people are gathering around ,dancing together; a sad man sits on the toilet and thinks of his childhood; an old lady’s funeral and people are crying for that…..
The object is the key when the different scenes have some connection and transfer to each other flexible. I want to use the movement of camera, maybe use the trailer and arms, which I could pull out or push in, facing to the direct emotion.
Music I pitch are mostly from jazz, and I want to hire a jazz band to help me holding the scene when people in the big house.
I watch some resource from the internet, including the movie ‘VERTIGO’. Seeing the masterpiece of other directors and students could help me to know the sense of “experimental”, it’s hard to define so that is no rule when you filming the experimental film.
I hope I could do my best to represent my first experimental movie.

Script Finalized “Take Care Your Own”

Yesterday, (September, 9th) I talked to Chris Zawadzki, who wrote a short script titled Take Care Your Own, which I worked on in Prof. Goenka’s Directing class last semester. I really wanted to make this short film, which revolves around the aftermath of a hit mans first kill and whether he can live with himself or not afterwards. The only problem was most of the script is set inside the hit mans apartment which I didn’t like, instead I wanted to do most of the filming outside in locations around downtown Syracuse and Tipperary Hill. This is what I talked to Mr. Zawadzki about and after a few minutes he told me I can have full artistic control over his script (since it was on his back burner). So now I’m pumped to move forward since I have the the entire storyline and dialogue written out and just need to rework the setting of a few scenes.

I’ll bring the original script in tomorrow with a few ideas of what I want to change.

Can’t wait to start pre-production!

Energized Yet Anxious

On Friday September 5th I met with a potential subject for my documentary project involving the Syracuse Shockwave. Chuck Iavarone is everything I am looking for in a subject. After meeting with him I felt like I’d have an interesting story no matter what transpired. I’ve found something for sure, yet I don’t feel at ease. Finding a potentially good story has a way of putting the pressure on. If a story has the potential to be great, then I have the responsibility to make it great. At this point it seems that if the film falls short it is the fault of the filmmaker, not the sequence of events that are about to transpire. I am nervous that my lack of experience might prove to be a hurdle in telling this story in the best possible manner. But I guess that’s why I’m here.
